This is the first book in Ken Follet's new Century Trilogy. The story follows the lives of five families before and during World War I and shows the very different thoughts and beliefs of each family.
While I really liked the story itself, I didn't find myself connected to any of the characters. I still can't figure out if it was because I just couldn't connect with them, or if it was because just when something was beginning to happen with one of them, the story changes and goes on to another character.
I will read the next book, if only to see if the characters can connect more. But I do have to say that Pillars of the Earth is still my favorite from this author.
