From the Publisher:  Release Date: April 2011

A unique and haunting novel about the Holocaust and the nature of evil

In Dieter Schlesak’s novel The Druggist of Auschwitz, Adam—known as “the Last Jew of Schässburg”—recounts with disturbing clarity his imprisonment at the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp. Through Adam’s testimony at the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial of 1963–65, we come to learn of the true-life story of Dr. Victor Capesius, who, despite strong friendships with Jews before the war, quickly aided in and profited from their tragedy once the Nazis came to power. Interspersed with historical research and actual face-to-face interviews with survivors, the novel follows Capesius from his assignment as the “sorter” of new arrivals at Auschwitz—deciding who will go directly to the gas chamber and who will be used as labor—through his life of lavish wealth after the war to his arrest and eventual trial.

The Druggist of Auschwitz—beautifully translated from the German by John Hargraves—is a frighteningly vivid portrayal of the Holocaust as seen through the eyes of criminal and victim alike. Schlesak’s use of factual data and testimony—woven into Adam’s dreamlike remembrance of a world turned upside down—makes The Druggist of Auschwitz an essential addition to our understanding of the Holocaust.

 From the Publisher:

Every so often that story comes along that reminds us of what it’s like to experience love for the first time—against the odds, when you least expect it, and with such passion that it completely changes you forever.
An unexpected discovery takes eighty-four-year-old Lily Davis Woodward to 1945, and the five days that forever changed her life.  Married for only a week before her husband was sent to fight in WWII, Lily is anxious for his return, and the chance to begin their life together.  In honor of the soldiers' homecoming, the small Georgia town of Toccoa plans a big celebration.  And Jake Russo, a handsome Italian immigrant, also back from war, is responsible for the elaborate fireworks display the town commissioned.   But after a chance encounter in a star-lit field, he steals Lily's heart and soul--and fulfills her in ways her socially-minded, upper-class family cannot.  Now, torn by duty to society and her husband--and the poor, passionate man who might be her only true love--Lily must choose between a commitment she's already made and a love she’s never known before.
Fireworks Over Toccoa takes us to a moment in time that will resonate with readers long after the book’s unforgettable conclusion.  A devastating and poignant story, this novel will resonate with anyone who believes in love.

I am excited to read both of these.  I am a huge lover of anything WWII and enjoy reading things from all sides of the war, fiction or non-fiction.  I also love anything set in a Southern state or city... I guess that comes from living here all my life.

So, what books are YOU anticipating this week????
